Amani Bakhiet came to Swansea five years ago with her children. Back in her country, Sudan, she graduated in Agricultural Economics and worked in development organisations, before she and her family became refugees.

Now she participates in various organizations which help refugees because she can understand the difficult situation that they go through. As she said in her interview in BBC “I thought everyone would welcome that and feel like I needed hospitality and welcoming but I noticed when I said I was an asylum seeker people would step back and then I knew it was not a good thing.”

Two of her poems were published in a book titled Are you Happy With That?  in Arabic with an English translation.
